CAP HURRICANE RELIEF UPDATE - January 18, 2007

We sent 311 kits down via Anna (from FOOTMAD) and her friend Steve (who has hauled stuff for us before) to Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy in Mobile. Dr. David Carl (long term Salvation Army volunteer on the coast picked them up and delivered 50 to D'Iberville, 50 to Bethel Lutheran, 100 to Coastal Clinics, 100 stay in Mobile.  via Anna and Steve.

Getting virtual volunteers. Welcome  Rip from Chicago and Nancy from Springfield, Mass.   They are helping by contacting the clinics and updating their needs and availabilities on the CAT database.  How cool is that.  By doing this we hope to spend more time trying to help get what they need.  For a list of over the counter medical supplies you can donate, check our needs list.

We got more blankets and linens in from Cousins Properties and Greater Bham Humane Shelter (along with some more pet food and supplies).  We are expecting more to come in from the AWARE Club of Vestavia High School the end of this week. We will be sending the blankets and linens to Bayou LaBatre. Pet supplies go to Waveland.  We also now have several pallets of medical supplies to inventory and quite a load of baby formula from the Post Office.

We would love to have some help in the warehouse on Friday (call for time) to make all these donations ready for shipping.  Dress warmly.

I'm sure those of you that know Becky aka "Grandma" would want to know that she is having serious health problems.  She has had to make several trips to the ER in the past two weeks.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.  Get well cards can be sent c/o CAP, 1801 Third Ave. S. Bham 35203. For those of you who don't know, when we first met Becky, she was homeless living on the streets in Bham.  She quickly became a regular volunteer and got housing through Bham Health Care. As our warehouse manager, you could find her in the warehouse most everyday.  She is still volunteering, but not as much.  We are hoping that with the digression of her health, she will at last be able to get an income with disability.
