Wow, you guys are awesome. The various campaigns for the holidays went well.
Here's a few highlights.
Greater Bham Humane Shelter (GBHS)donated pet food and toys. Thanks Jacque and Joe!
The Girl Scouts of the Cahaba Council did a fabulous job of collecting food for Angie , LA. They also made cards to put in each box! I know those will bring a few happy tears! A HUGE thanks to Springer Equipment for once again lending us the use of a forklift to get the food boxes and pet supplies loaded.
We also got a HUGE donation of much needed BOXES from SouthPak. Yahoo! Thanks so much!
Blankets were collected from Janice Johns and GBHS for Bayou La Batre and Benny Bliss from Longs Electronics drove them down himself. I think the AWARE Club of Vestavia High School also got in on that drive. Way to go yall!
Several people including Jenny Zarichnak donated toys for the Boys and Girls Club of the MS Gulf. I know some got dropped off without me recording their name. Sorry. L Consolidated Pipe and Supply did a toy drive and so did Cousins Properties. Thanks to Cassie, Judy and Steve for the delivery! Candi with HandOnBirmingham brought in a whole bunch of toys left over from the Toys for Tots drive. Way to go!
Butch Fadely started a group going on the St. Claire Co. message board for toy collection and I'm sure they and others shipped directly to the Boys and Girls club. I'm proud to say I think metro Birmingham made a big dent!
Another load of diabetic kits from Bayer Company came in. Yeah! Gary McGinnis from Maryland picked up a truck load (240 kits) the Saturday before xmas and took them down to Hancock County where our friend Kathleen Johnson will store them until we can get them distributed. We'll keep you informed as they go out from there. Thanks Gary and Becky and friends for meeting him on Saturday so I didn't have to go into Bham!
CAP's Corner in ONB newsletter, Synergy, put out the word for supporting CAP Officer Bobby Jernigan's adopted orphanage in Dijbouti. We got a several donations in with Gail Daw (Advanced Auto), Teresa Thorne (CAP), Robert Emerick (ONB), Mari Culver and the Tutwiler Hotel staff leading the way. Thanks guys!
I have a small amount of medical supplies for D Iberville, MS and Common Ground, NOLA that needs shipping. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING THAT WAY!!
We still have a quantity of kits to put together and Mark from UAB says we have another load of medical supplies so let me know if you'd like to do some volunteer time in the warehouse.
As always, thanks for your continued support!

We are still collecting canned food for Angie, LA and children's underwear for Metarie, LA and for the orphanage that CAP Officers, Bobby Jernigan and Demus Copeland, are supporting in African.
Benny Bliss from Long's Electronics here in Birmingham wrote me a long letter requesting help to collect blankets and toys for Bayou La Batre, Alabama. I extracted the following paragraph:
After seeing the conditions in Bayou La Batre, I made a promise to the mayor and the people that I met that I would do what I could to help them this Christmas season. Those of us not affected by Hurricane Katrina have no idea what these people have gone through and are going through. With jobs scarce, there will be little or no Christmas for hundreds of children in the area. Families are still in living FEMA trailers with no heat and blankets are a precious commodity. I am asking for your help in Blanketing The Bayou as you do your Christmas shopping this year...add a warm blanket to your cart and send it to me. If the spirit moves you, send a child's toy. I will see that it gets to those that need it most before Christmas. I also ask that you send this email to those on your email list and ask them to help with this worthwhile project. Also make your local news media aware of our efforts. Nothing would please me more than being able to deliver a huge truck load of much needed supplies. Roy Long of Long's Electronics has offered to store all donations and provide the necessary trucks needed to transport the donations.
Those wanting to be a part of Blanketing The Bayou...please send blankets and/or toys to:
Blanketing The Bayou c/o Long's Electronics 2630 5th Avenue South Irondale, Alabama 35210
Or you can drop them off at the CAP office: 1801 Third Ave. North Birmingham, AL 35203

CAP Hurricane Relief Update - December, 2006
Mari Culver brought by 2 bags full of gently used underwear for us to send to Bobby Jernigan's unit in Africa. Thanks Mari!
Gail Daw, of Advanced Automotive, brought in a dozen new packages of underwear! She is also trying to spread the word via the Downtown Business Association. Thanks Gail!!!!
The Girl Scouts of Cahaba Council have stepped up to collect food for the boxes going to Angie, LA. FYI, I got an email from Angie Clinic saying they had 300 families show up for Thanksgiving dinner. It broke their hearts to have to turn some of them away due to lack of enough food. Let's try to get them more food boxes.
Mary Lynn Bates picked up 80 diabetic kits to take to NOLA this weekend. These will go to Common Ground and Daughters of Charity.
Versie Burgess of Southern Natural Gas/El Passo in the AmSouth Building just let me know she has collected a bag full of underwear!! Thank yall so much!! Way to go! Anybody else collecting out there?
I'd also like to send out a big congratulations to Free Haul in Arizona who coordinated a donation from World Care to cover the shipping of 5 loads of donated lumber from Snavely Forest Products. Much of this lumber will go down to Waveland, MS. In case you don't remember, Free Haul has taken 2 loads of supplies down for us!
