Animal Rescue

Animal Rescue groups and Humane Shelters all along the coast continue to rescue, feed and neuter animals left behind. We will be happy to get your donation of money, food, flea control, etc. to the place of your choice. Email: capbham@aol.com.

Many people ask me, "How long are you going to feed these animals?"  Some may think this is not a high priority as far as Relief goes, but it's a very important emotional issue for those people trying to pick up the pieces on the Gulf.  They couldn't save their houses, possessions. . .in some cases, their family members, but by God, they can save something and that something is the animals left to fend for themselves on the street. I had a great talk with folks from ARNO and LA-SPCA.   These groups are working together to take care of the many stray cats (which seem to be the main problem).  It is in everyone's interest to get this cat population neutered so the problem doesn't get bigger.  FYI, a little piece of the cats' ear is clipped to identify which ones have been neutered.  Like everything else in Katrina recovery, this is going to take a long time.  Money is desperately needed for neutering as there are no free vet clinics set up.  ARNO has a huge warehouse and shares food with many other organizations (including the Waveland group).  The food we send is mostly going to feed sheltered and stray animals on the street and to homes where people want to take care of their pets, but can't afford the food.  Interestingly ARNO puts down (baking) flour around their feeding stations so they can tell if rats or raccoons are also getting feed. They report that the cats keep both raccoons and rats away; rat problems are around the piles of garbage left in the areas where the people are starting to come back.
