Big News!! The Lions Club International has agreed to fund our shipping of medical supplies to the Katrina gulf! Yahoooo! One less thing to worry about!
Please join us in our cat food collection!
The food we collect will only go to people who are acting as shelters and have 20 plus animals in their care, and the food will be distributed by the Humane Society of Hancock Co. They have done a superb job of trying to neuter the feral population down there and are working in an incredibly stressful environment, i.e. animals are getting sick from a newly discovered disease, people are not spaying and neutering the domestic population and then dumping litters at the Human Society's door. Not to mention the surge (sorry for using that word) of animals that were "dumped" when people had to move out of trailers.
I will be taking a load down on the 22nd of August so please try to drop a bag of cat food (dry food is preferred) by then to the new CAP office at 1704 5th Ave. North. It's under the parking deck and right now says it's Dr. Lewis's office. We will continue to collect after that date too if you want to organize something on your own and can't do it that quickly. FYI- I will be out of town for the entire last week of August.
Since our last update here is what we've been up to:
* Shipped 30 first-aid kits to Angie, LA for Hurricane preparedness.
* 22 boxes of formula went to Greater Bham Ministries here in Birmingham.
* Sent a pallet of hospital medical supplies to Ocean Springs--thanks to Amy Tubbs and her family for making that delivery!!!
Hugh thanks to South Pak for supplying us with more boxes for our kits and UAB for the bags we pack them in!
We are currently working on making approx. 500 kits -- Tremendous thanks to Bayer Company! The clinics have requested way more than we can supply them, but we are doing our best to get some to everyone.
Thanks for your support!
